The magical "candy cottage" opens to reveal a witch, two children and finally, a tiny gingerbread man. 5-piece set is handmade in Russia. For kids and collectors ages 3 and up. The first Russian nesting doll set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin from a design by a folk art painter. Its inspiration was a set of Japanese wooden dolls representing the Seven Lucky Gods. It consisted of eight dolls-six girls, a boy and a tiny baby. In 1900, the dolls earned a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Paris, and soon after, similar matryoshkas were being made throughout Russia. Size: 5-1/2"H. WARNING CHOKING HAZARD.
